My dad and I...we're something. We're both stubborn, bossy and short-tempered, but I also love people because of his heart for people, and I love serving because of him and my mom. Whenever somebody asks me about my relationship with my dad, it's summed up as "We fight a LOT, but anybody who knows us knows that we love each other."
Here's to a father who (just to name a few...):
- went to almost every single piano competition I ever competed in, local/national/international
- bought all of my piano books and my two pianos
- was my and my brother's bodyguard during my younger years TTCing downtown every Friday and Saturday for YAPA
- spent hours waiting for my brother and I at the Conservatory during YAPA (this went on for many years...)
- basically did more-than-too-many piano-related things for me than I could name
...
- let me have a Shirley Temple at Red Lobster post-CMC in Edmonton
- took me out for a birthday lunch at O&B on my 16th birthday and tried to have a serious 16th birthday talk with me
- bought me my first Apple thingy couple of years ago (it is still my only Apply thingy -- I mean iTouch)
- registered me for swimming and Lifeguarding classes every year (this required early morning calls and being stuck on hold for hours)
- took me to China when I was 1 (I'm still the only one of the 3 siblings who's been)
- made me memorize the multiplication table as I walked around his tiny home office in circles (this proved to be SUPER helpful)
- helped me with whatever homework or project I had to trouble with...after arguing about it
...
- lets me sleep instead of waking me up when I'm passed out in the afternoon (this has its cons but I appreciate it nonetheless)
- fixes my computer and phone problems like it's no big deal
- continues to remind me to sleep early, not waste my time, and study hard
- (this isn't totally good but it's part of who I am) never let me get away with being just "good" or "okay" at something -- anytime I finished a competition or got a grade back, there was something I could improve or work on
- is reliable, like when I really do NEED something, as awkward of a purchase it may be for a man (like skin-coloured pantyhose), he's on it
...
- is never bored of life lessons and giving them like it's his job
- has the most ridiculous laugh I have ever heard (and that I still make fun of)
- buys momma flowers for no reason
- buys random snacks and spends an extra hour or two at the grocery store because of - said snacks (that only he will eat)
- is the king of not being able to multitask
- loves Jesus and is amazing at getting people to talk with and to him
- still cooks his special noodles on saturdays whenever we're home
- still lets me put up the christmas tree even though he really doesn't approve
- loves gardening - it's such a cute hobby of his (imo)
- loves his family, conditionally, unconditionally, day in and out.
I couldn't find a proper picture of us (maybe we just don't have one?) but this was us a couple of years ago, shaking on some sort of bet and I just loved that we're both smiling and it looks spontaneous. I'm a cheeseball for happy moments and I love my dad -- so happy 50th, Dad♥
